Update: Life in Lockdown

When Sydney’s second wave began and we were sent home from the office my life was just getting in the good routine I wanted. I’d just started up the gym and splurged on PT sessions, I was back in the office several days a week, my ceramics course was about to begin and I had a semi-regular posting schedule with Curator Notes where I would post at least once a week on the blog and most days on Instagram. I could feel the momentum building. But that’s always the way, right?

I’m sorry I disappeared, but the fact we had to go back into lockdown, after feeling like just having come from living in Melbourne’s strict second wave, hit me hard. I needed to get back into writing for fun, Animal Crossing and completely switching off after I logged off from my full time job each night. I’m sure you’ve all been through something similar recently and understand what I mean.

Now, just a few days before my 30th birthday, and coming up to four months in this particular lockdown, I feel drawn back to my little corner of the internet. There is, however, no art for me to go and see. AGNSW, White Rabbit, Chau Chak Wing Museum and the MCA - all places I am dying to visit - are still closed, and look to stay that way for at least another two months. I’ve been thinking about what I’d like to write about and create while I wait and I’m feeling inspired to start working on these for you, so look out for newness soon.

One thing I did realise quickly when I stopped working on Curator Notes back in early July was that I didn’t miss Instagram. Of course I missed the conversation and community I was beginning to build there, but the day-to-day creating of “content” for this platform wasn’t something I thought about at all and I relished the extra time I had in my day after letting that go. So I’m also spending some time thinking about how social media and Curator Notes will mix going forward.

How are you all doing?
